IT IS VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING AND WE ARE GOING ON TOUR SOON
GOOD MORNING, it's around 3 AM, and as per usual, I am bored of animating and making stuff but still can't sleep. So I'm gunna' write about this idea for a cartoon that I had the other night. It should probably be considered a bad idea, but for the sake of movement, here it is:
Okay! There's a bar in an inter-dimensional, a-historical universe and this Baby Centaur walks in. He sits next to a small girl who is drinking apple juice and looks miserable. He proceeds to listen to her tale about how she was traveling through time with her time-traveling friend dragon whilst she's learning about history and teaching the world about events and stories from the distant past on public television. She's kind of like a Dora the Explorer meets little cussing girl from that Will Ferrel skit from "the internet". Anyway...suddenly, during a time-traveling trip, they are torn from one another and the little girl lands in this unfamiliar place.
The Baby Centaur proceeds to tell the girl that there's another time-traveling dragon who lives in the shady part of town and that he might be able to help. He then takes some LSD and they head to a seedy village a few miles away.
They end up at a dingy building and knock on the door. From the inside they are told to enter. The Girl and the Baby Centaur are both surprised when they see a cow with a man head and a man with a cow head making love on a pullout mattress. The two cow-men start to launch into a philosophical analysis of moral behavior in the context of someone's home and love life. It quickly become tedious and the Girl and Baby Centaur enter the next room.
On the ground lies a Narwal with a business suit draped over him. He's on the phone yelling at his stalker about how she sent him a finger but didn't bother to send any customized candy with some lovely sayings printed on them; things like: "you make me horny"(because narwals have elongated toothes that look like unicorn horns, it's funny I promise). The narwal hangs up and the threatens the Baby Centaur to get him "the money he owes" him and other tropes.
The Girl and Baby Centaur then go to a creepy underground boutique and they meet a time-traveling dragon named Boris. They decided to traverse the time-space-continuum together looking for the Girl's friend. There's more to it but I don't know that it's worth writing down.
Anyway, SUNMONKS IS ON A TOUR OF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST SOON!! I hope that if you're in Redding, Portland, Seattle, Tacoma, Long Beach or anywhere around those places you'll come visit us and listen to what we do...and maybe give me some suggestions about this time-traveling dragon story. CHECK OUT THE TOUR PAGE FOR MORE INFORMATION!!
SEE YOU SOON WORLD!
SUNMONKS TOUR 2016
HEY PARTY PEOPLE!
It's that time again, scheming and making stuff sure puts us in the mood to travel, so we're heading north first thing in 2016!! We are heading out to the great cities of Nevada City, Redding, Olympia, Seattle, Portland, Long Beach and more starting January 15th! What a way to start the year off!
All this playing around in the north will be perfectly punctuated with the debut of a new music video and brand new single/B side that was made by us monks here in California! Making stuff sure feels good, and showing people what we make is just about the most satisfying thing we get to do!!
This tune was originally intended to apear on our upcoming full length album, but we felt like it was the odd-man-out. Since we still loved it so much, we decided to release it as a single called "Greens". Another tune called "Honey" will also appear with that single. Both tunes are dance tunes and feature the beautiful Alexandra Steele as the featured vocalist.
Personally, I'm extrememely excited!
Hopefully we'll see you soon, dancing the night away, with us and our friends, Sea of Bees!!
Sunmonks/See of Bees tour 2015
Yo from us monks! We are heading out on a short tour this week and it's gunna be a sure-fire-blast!! Our good friends, Sea of Bees will be playing with us; actually I(Geoffrey) am lucky enough to be playing bass for them. I get to double team the stage like some kind of perverse theater jock!!
Anyway, we are very much looking forward to heading out and trying out our sound on some non-nor-cal audiences. We'll be touring a lot more in the coming months and years. Touring is something we love to do. In an age when the technology has made almost every kind of media free, instant and constant, getting in front of a human being and showing them what you do in person is as powerful as it has ever been.
We work really hard to make things we love and care about, and being able to show those things to fellow humans is deeply gratifying. Hopefully we see YOU soon!! If you or a friend is in Ojai, Santa Barbara, LA, or San Diego, send em our way so we can play our bombast tunes at them!!! Maybe they'll even like it!?!
It's so early in the morning here on the west coast. I've been making beats lately as I haven't felt the need to write songs. It's a whole different world; it's spacial decision-making. It's far more textural than making acoustic music and then recording it in it's somehowromanticallyunadulturated pureness. I understand why people rely on making music this way. Failure is difficult when you are painting by numbers; the new metric for excelence is general vibe and feel, not immidiate psycho-emotional response. Not that beats can't communicate emotion, but it's a more basic emotion. The art of repitition. The science of sonic textures. It is deeply gratifying. I understand why people do this.
Playing shows soon: this time we're bigger, better, and generally zestier!
I WANT YOU TO COME HANG WITH US!!!
We'll be playing a show in Sacramento(Concerts in the Park) on Friday July 17th and a show in Grass Valley(World Fest) on Saturday July 18th. We are very excited to be back in action and hope to see you soon!!!
Sunmonks are performing on NYE
2015 is about to hit like a damp slap to the face. Here is where we will be.

We've been waiting a long time to be able to share our first vinyl baby with the world, and the day finally approaches.
This is a special early post-dinner show at the Lowbrau in downtown Sac. Come fill up on Lowbrau's top-shelf sausage and beer, then immediately settle in for music from Young Aundee and Sunmonks to complete your buzz.

Young Aundee (w/ Dusty Brown) is our favorite electronica act in town. Listen here.
Sunmonks Cover Feature in Submerge Magazine
Our video for In A Desert of Plenty just premiered on Entertainment Weekly!
Our first music video is finally dropping on the interwebs. We spent a Mad-Max-ian 24 hours camping in the silent expanses of the Black Rock Desert in NV, went slightly crazy from sleep and culture deprivation, commited a couple semi-misdemeanors, and filmed it all.
In Your Speakers reviewed In A Desert of Plenty
In Your Speakers reviewed our recent Extended Play Sound Recording & Reproduction Product.
"In a Desert of Plenty may be Sunmonks’ first collection of released songs, but it certainly cannot be their last. This four-pieces conjures complex musical arrangements that could very easily collapse in a heap at their feet, and yet their EP is comfortable and confident."
Also, here is a picture of our dogs. (you're welcome)
Our DEBUT EP is out on the interwebs TODAY!!
"In a Desert of Plenty may be Sunmonks’ first collection of released songs, but it certainly cannot be their last. This four-pieces conjures complex musical arrangements that could very easily collapse in a heap at their feet, and yet their EP is comfortable and confident." - In Your Speakers
"The distractions and diversions from the material obsessed realm fade into the percussive metrics, further underscored by the call and response relationship between the brass and bass." - Impose
We're Playing a Cool Blowout Post-Halloween Indie Dance Night
Our Single "In A Desert of Plenty" Premiers Today on Impose Magazine!
"This is the best way I can describe the desert of plenty: we were born to hunt, to make music, to paint, to be alone, to have sex and do drugs, and to make children and show them water and fire. Our ancestors, through unimaginable difficulty and sacrifice, engineered a situation which allows us so much free time that many of us don’t know what to do with it. We have to live, we have to do something other than eat, masturbate and watch Netflix." - from the Impose interview
Yep, our first baby (ahem...EP) is just about due to drop! Stream the first single off our forthcoming EP, and read the entirety of Impose's (and dare we say...refreshingly and/or terrifyingly longform and abstract) interview with Sunmonks' own Geoffrey CK.
Vinyl Test Pressings for the New EP Arrived Today!
We just got our test pressings back for the upcoming Sunmonks EP and they sound amazing!! We mixed to analog tape and it's rad to hear those mixes off the vinyl. We know there is a lot of "vinyl hype" out there, but music off vinyl really does sound undeniably different. We're just stoked to live in an age where we get the best of both the analog and digital worlds.
More importantly, we can't wait to share it with you!
Analog tape saturation fixed all our wrong notes!! (Okay not really. But imperfections are not only important artistically, but also on a socio/political level, i.e. it keeps the YouTube trolls off the streets by giving them something to derisively point out in the comments.)
Sunmonks Will Be Releasing A New EP This Fall
Look for a new §unmonks EP, entitled In A Desert of Plenty, out this fall on Crossbill Records! Release dates, release shows, and other such release-y details to follow soon.
